I was asked by a client of mine to create a surrealistic look for the opening gala of the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Living in Tampa, Florida at that time, I came up with a sea inspiration design based on the ocean and its creatures using a simple color pallette of cobalt blue, gold, coral, and black.
I decided to make my client's head the focal point of the creation having in mind that she would be moving around hundreds of standing invitees at the gala. My idea was to represent a coral reef using 3 of my gold headpieces inspired by anemones and corals made out of crim. I also made a black sea urchin for the composition.
My very good friend, hair stylist Monica Ponce, designed a beautiful hairdo to complete the look.
The make-up had to reflect the character of the coral reef, so I asked another very good friend, make up artist Amra Farcheg, to take charge of my idea of a sea urchin eye and coral lips.
My client wore a one shoulder cobalt blue silk satin organza gown from my "Deep Ocean Collection" with gold hand-made net that draped to a side to simulate sea waves.
To accesorize the outfit I used coral, abalones, and cultured pearls to create a tall shocker, and earrings wired with brass, and as a tribute to Dali a surrealistic watch was made out of a can of anchovies and coral. it was attached to my client's wrist with cobalt blue silk.
A pair of pewter platform pumps and a custom made clutch were part of the final look.
